All candidates must have credit for course work from an accredited college in the following areas:

1. Adolescent Growth and Development or Adolescent Psychology (one course)

EDPY 705....................................... 3 credits

2. Principles of Learning, Secondary School Materials, Secondary School Curriculum, or Secondary School Methods of Teaching

Elective....................................... 3 credits
Suitable courses include EDTE 690, EDTE 671, EDSE 701, EDPY 706

3. Principles and/or Philosophy of Education (one course)

EDFN 749....................................... 3 credits


4. Directed teaching in Secondary School (one semester)

EDSE 781A...................................... 3 credits
EDSE 781B and EDSE 584 (taken concurrently)........ 12 credits


5. Two additional graduate courses in teaching methods including Advanced Study of Teaching of Science in Secondary Schools

EDSE 553............................ 3 credits
EDSE 732........................... 3 credits


6. Teaching of reading

EDRD 518 or EDRD 730................ 3 credits
