Positions for Two Endowed Chairs in NeuroImaging Research

The University of South Carolina (USC), Columbia, as part of a recently funded statewide Brain Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE), invites inquiries, applications, and nominations for two tenured and endowed faculty positions in the area of human brain imaging. These positions provide a unique opportunity to use the basic and clinical imaging resources at USC and the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to grow an area of advanced interdisciplinary research based on human brain imaging.

 

Applicants for the USC Endowed Chair in Cognitive Neuroimaging should be scholars with training in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a combination, and have substantial experience using functional brain imaging to address questions concerning the brain basis of cognition and behavior. A history of substantial grant funding, and experience leading a large and successful research team are also needed. Preference will be given to persons who have experience working in clinical settings, and those with experience on Department of Defense, NIH and applied projects. This person will act as the center of the behavioral and cognitive core of the BICOE. In addition to running a successful research team, they will be expected to participate in the hiring and mentoring of junior faculty in cognitive and behavioral science.

 

Applicants for the USC Endowed Chair in Medical/Imaging Physics should be scholars with training in biomedical physics, with extensive experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. They need to have substantial expertise in applying appropriate advanced pulse sequences for a variety of MR modalities including perfusion, diffusion, and various structural approaches. Preference will be given to those applicants currently working within a clinical or cognitive neuroscience group with an international reputation in using functional imaging. The applicant should have an established record of grant funding and the ability to foster interdisciplinary research. This person will act as the center of the medical/imaging physics core of the BICOE. In addition to running a successful research team, they will be expected to participate in the hiring and mentoring of junior faculty in medical/imaging physics.

 

The University of South Carolina - Founded in 1801 and one of three public research universities in South Carolina, USC spans an eight-campus, fully-accredited, state-supported system. It has strong undergraduate and graduate programs and professional schools including Arts and Sciences; Medicine, Business, Law, Education, Social Work, Pharmacy, Public Health, Mass Communications and Information Studies, and Nursing. Approximately 40,000 students are enrolled in the USC system.

 

USC has put in place faculty hiring plans to increase the numbers of faculty by 250 over the next five years at the same time as 350 retiring faculty are being replaced. This year, USC began construction of the first phase of Innovista – USC’s urban research campus located contiguously with the main campus. This will comprise five million square feet of research labs, offices, and retail facilities that will become a center for innovation and job creation.

 

These positions require an M.D and/or Ph.D. Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled.
