Magnetic Resonance, Solid State Physics, Superconductivity, Applications of Clifford Algebras.
Microwave absorption in high temperature superconductors is being studied to obtain information on the pinning centers. Understanding the pinning problem is necessary for the development of superconductors with large current carrying capability. Magnetic field cycling and sample orientation studies clarify how quantized magnetic flux localized in vortices moves into and out of the sample. Time dependent studies provide insights into the dynamics of the vortex motion within the material as well as the entry and exit of vortices at the surface. Interactions between vortices are being investigated by computer simulation techniques.
A textbook covering the field of superconductivity has been written and appeared in print in the spring of 1995. It is planned to follow this up with a monograph covering the magnetic properties of superconductors and this will take at least two years to write. It is anticipated that this concentration on understanding the magnetic aspects of superconductors will generate research problems to be investigated during the next few years.
The investigation of ferroelectric polarization by electron spin resonance and the application of Clifford algebras to the elucidation of problems in physics are of continuing interest.
